Visual Merchandisers know what I mean when they hear the saying "we solve problems you don't even know you had". Most of time... a Visual Merchandiser has to juggle all of the plates all at once. Think of those late deliveries that don't make it for the floorset on time and the domino effect that has on visual presentation or floorset execution, an entire denim wall that has to be refolded due to an over zealous customer pulling out their size.... good or bad... it is the job to adapt, redirect and carry on and make it brilliant once again because that is what we do and we do it with a smile. Think about setting up an entire presentation and then the late product arrives after you just finished. Side note.... I personally find it most cathartic folding denim or tees...and love the end result for the guest who gets to shop a neat and easy to navigate display. Shoppers appreciate all the efforts put into dressing mannequins and re-dressing them as the product sells through, creating amazing window displays that draw the guest in or how about the amazing seasonal displays kicking off the season. It is all in a days work.
So, drawing back on "solving problems you didn't even know you had"... a Visual Merchandiser has a keen eye (perhaps someone obsessed with the details and one who celebrates the fine nuances associated with building from scratch a captivating concept or display. If something is slightly askew a Visual Merchandiser is most likely seeing it before anyone else and they focus and zero in on that, correct and massage before anyone else realizes it was an issue. You all know this happens.
Our world of Visual is ever changing (just like the Post Office).... we never run out of things to fold, re-merchandise or restock, re-dress, steam, create new compelling and evoking displays etc... I applaud all of those Visual Merchandisers out there.... Each and every season there are new pantone colors, new trends in the industry (product or fabrication wise), new techniques on how to message to the consumer (digital, phygital & in-store marketing wise). Putting yourself out there for something so subjective can be daring but I wouldn't change it for anything.
Our world is FUN.....and I love it!!!
Take time today to "Thank your fellow Visual Merchandiser".... you all make it look easy!
